UK Met Office NWP models#
The UK Met Office currently runs the UK deterministic NWP model over the United Kingdom and surrounding regions. Our operational configuration uses a horizontal resolution of approximately 2 km and includes 70 vertical levels.
Temporal resolution#
It is a 120-hour forecast with a 1h timestep from 0 to 54 hours, and every 3 hours between 57 to 120 hours.
Update frequency#
The model is run every hour, but only 00 UTC and 12 UTC runs are available on our platform.
Available variables#
The following variables are available on the platform:
Rain precipitation rate (instantaneous rate at the surface from the model’s precipitation scheme), in mm.
Total precipitation rate (instantaneous rate at which liquid water is being deposited on the surface), in mm.
Temperature at 1.5 meters, in ºC.
Wind speed and direction at 10 meters, in km/h.
