HARMONIE-AROME model in AEMET#

AEMET currently runs the HARMONIE-AROME NWP model over two domains: one covering the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and another for the Canary Islands. The operational configuration uses a horizontal resolution of 2.5 km, with 65 levels in the vertical.

Temporal resolution#

It is a 48-hour forecast with a 1h timestep.

Update frequency#

Every 6 hours at 00, 06, 12, and 18 UTC the model is executed.

Available variables#

The following variables are available on the platform:

  • Precipitation (accumulated over 1, 3, or 6 hours), in mm.

  • Temperature at 2 meters, in ºC.

  • Pressure at mean sea level, in hPa.

  • Wind speed and direction at 10 meters, in km/h.

  • Cloud cover, in %.

  • Wind gust (1h or 3h max), in km/h.

  • Lightning density (inferred from graupel content), in flashes/km².
